Hi Nicole! I have a wide angle lens I just bought about 6 months ago specifically for the lights, as it is also good in low light situations. But even with my old camera/lenses I got some good shots. First and foremost you need a tripod! You can get an inexpensive one at Walmart/Freddies (about $20). You also need to have the capabilities on your camera for long exposures. Depending on the camera, it can take anywhere from 4-30 seconds to capture the lights.

Definitely email/call me if you'll have time to meet up when you come to Fairbanks. I'd love to see you and Maddie again! In fact, I'm redesigning my online gallery, and I've used a photo of you and Maddie on one of the dynamic headers. I'll let you know when it's up and running, so you can check it out. :)

The lights are incredible! We didn't get anything that fancy here in Delta, just the eerie green alien abduction glow, but I always love getting a glimpse of them.

Incidentally... how do you photograph them so well? What kind of lens/flash etc are you using?

If I think about it, and if we do decide to come up early, I'll try to remember to bring this manual camera I bought this summer at a yrd sale, so you can teach me how to use it! LOL
