Full Corn Moon - September 4th

Filed under: About — Susan Stevenson @ 11:40 am

This full moon’s name is attributed to Native Americans because it marked when corn was supposed to be harvested. Most often, the September full moon is actually the Harvest Moon, but October’s moon is designated the Harvest Moon this year. (In two years out of three, the Harvest Moon comes in September, but in some years it occurs in October.)

We had clear skies here, so I took a photo of it. It seemed so much bigger and brighter than usual, and lit up the entire front yard with light.

I resized it a little larger than I usually do for photos. Click on this thumbnail to view it:

If you’re interested in the different parts of the landscape of the moon (which you can see in my photo), THIS WEBSITE is awesome for naming and describing the craters, seas, mountain ranges and more.

Now, if only the aurora would come out, so I can photograph the lights!
