May Snow Showers
Happy Cinco de Mayo (if you celebrate). As I type this, it is snowing. Big, fat, fluffy flakes that weren’t sticking at first, but are now starting to. No, I am not happy about this, but the birds seem to like it, as they are still crowding the feeders. Snow in May is not unusual. But it’s always a bit of a shock to see it, especially after weeks of true spring weather. I know it’s not going to stick around, but I wish we could just get on the business of spring.
I have been so busy this week, and I will have many photos to share in my next blog entry. But for now, I only have time to write.
We had our dress rehearsal for dance this past Sunday. Everything went well, and everyone looked so beautiful. I am really looking forward to the recital on Saturday night. If you’re local and enjoy beautiful costumes, colors, and women - come on out and watch us perform.
The performance is at the Pioneer Park Centennial Center for the Arts (in the round building) on Saturday night, May 8th. The doors open at 7pm. Tickets are available at the door ($15/pp, $10/pp military or student), but get there early if you plan to buy tickets. I believe they are also available at Hoitts, and Joyce will have some at Space for Movement Studio (the old Elbow Room) downtown.

There are sandhill cranes at Creamers Field now. Steve and I walked the boreal forest trail yesterday and saw about a dozen of them. Our walk was lovely, and there were no mosquitoes out to harass us. That was a nice surprise!
The ice went out on the Chena, but it wasn’t as big a production as prior years. I think the gradual thaw and warmer than usual winter had a huge effect on it. My friend Lori and I stood down at the river taking photos (and she took some video), but it wasn’t the crashing, booming, fast moving water with huge icebergs in it.
Green buds can be seen all over town. However, with this May snow we’re getting, I wonder if they’ll stay nice and tight for awhile longer. I drove up to the top of Birch Hill last weekend, and saw green in the surrounding hills. It was a beautiful sight.
I need to get back to working on photos. I hope to make a blog entry here before the weekend, with many to share.
Happy May!
Until next time…
