June!
I love the month of June! The brown grass turns green after a long winter of sleep. Wildflowers spring up all over the state. The trees are bushy with leaves. Butterflies and bumblebees flit from flower to flower. Gardens are started. Yard work is tended to. Tiny moose calves are sighted. And the camper is made ready for another summer of adventure.
We’ve had several days of rain, and today it looks like it might clear up. The rain is much needed, as we still have wildfires burning all over the state. According to the current situation report, more than 534,000 acres have burned this year, or are currently burning. Scroll down that page (past the blank page) to see more detailed information about the individual fires. Our firefighters are keeping very busy.
As we approach summer solstice, the days continue to lengthen. It really doesn’t matter now, as we’ve had 24 hours of light for a couple of weeks. The sun is still dipping below the horizon, but the sky never darkens. I love this time of year, as I sleep like a baby. Gone is the winter insomnia I suffer with (a not so common side effect of S.A.D.) I feel refreshed.
I took this photo in the early morning hours. It was an overcast day, so the sky isn’t blue, but you can see how much light we have in the summer months.
