Finally… a REAL Entry

Filed under: Family, House, Photography, Travel, intro — Susan Stevenson @ 4:55 pm

I’m going to play ‘catch up’, and include photos I’ve taken over the past two weeks. This is a long entry with a lot of photos.

AURORA BOREALIS

On the early morning of the 11th - the day before I left Fairbanks for Madison - the aurora made an appearance. It was a surprise to see them, as the forecast wasn’t calling for much activity at all.  It was one of those “stay up all night” episodes, and while getting ready for bed, I glanced out the window and saw green bands in the sky.

It was very cold, and I scrambled to pull on layers of clothing over my pajamas. I decided to set up my camera on the back deck and shoot the sky over the yard. I’m glad I made that decision, as I had to run inside and warm up my hands periodically. I think the temperature was at the -38F mark.

The bedroom light was on, and I like the way you can see the bedroom window aglow in this photo, with the lights overhead:

The third photo below, was taken through the sliding glass doors. I was so cold, I came inside and thought I’d try shooting through the back door. (You can see the imprint of bird feathers on the left top side of the glass from a recent crash. Don’t worry, the bird is OK)

Saturday, June 7th - Welcome to a new format! Now you can comment to me!

Filed under: intro — Susan Stevenson @ 4:27 pm

I’ve been trying to incorporate an interactive blog into my website for the past several months. I had a few bugs I needed to work out, and grew quite frustrated with the process.

This past week, I devoted many hours to finally getting it online, and I think I finally have everything functioning correctly. If you find any bugs while reading me here, please let me know via email, or by commenting directly to the journal entry itself.

Each new entry appears at the top of the page. Images which are in thumbnail size will still enlarge in the same window when clicked.

Above the header photograph, are the links to three additional pages within this blog format. The ABOUT link is a brief intro about me, and how I came to Alaska. THE PHOTOGRAPHER link takes you to a page where you can learn more about my passion, and how I became interested in photography. THE WRITER link takes you to a page where I pen my thoughts about journaling.

To the right of this entry are all the links leading to the table of contents from my original journal, as well as my gallery page, and more.

The search box will allow you to search my entries for key words. I also plan to categorize my entries (I hope I keep up with this) so that topics can be more easily located.

In order to comment, I do require that you enter your name and email where indicated. You don’t need to write your entire name, if you don’t want to. Whatever you write in this box will be visible to the public. The email field WILL NOT be visible to the public, and is a way for me to keep spam down. If you have a website, by all means share it with me. I love to read other people’s blogs.

I moved over my previous entry from June 5th, so that this new blog will include the entire month of June as a starting point. I appreciate your feedback as I get used to this new way of blogging. I hope it works well!

Welcome to my ‘new and improved’ Alaska Journal!
